Forbidden love, madness, and a bloody wedding night.
A heavy fog lies over the Scottish moors and cold castles of the 18th century. In Donizetti's opera, nature reflects inner turmoil – you can hear it. Young Lucia falls in love with the family's arch-enemy. This prompts her power-hungry brother to weave evil intrigues. A love drama with a bloody ending. To love Edgardo but have to marry the unloved Arturo drives Lucia into sheer madness. On the wedding night, she stabs the groom and sings herself into insanity. Donizetti's Belcanto gem combines virtuosity with tragedy. One more opera where love ends fatally and music becomes immortal.
