Verdi Requiem
A Requiem like an opera drama – full of passion, pain, and hope. Verdi composed his moving work in memory of the poet Alessandro Manzoni, whom he greatly admired. The world premiere took place in 1874 in Milan and was conducted by Verdi himself. Involved in the 'Messa da Requiem' are international and Georgian soloists, the festival orchestra and choir, the Georgian Sinfonietta, the Batumi Choir, the Georgian State Choir Tbilisi, and the Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Cornelia von Kerssenbrock. The first performance will take place on April 8, 2026, as the opening of the 'Tbilisi Choral Music International Festival' in Georgia, with the second on August 2, 2026, at the IMMLING FESTIVAL.
The project deliberately sets a sign for cultural exchange and understanding in Europe. Verdi's work serves as a medium to make themes such as transience, hope, and community experienceable across national and cultural boundaries, especially in times of geopolitical tensions.
