A MUSICAL SIGN OF FRIENDSHIP: The Verdi Requiem

On Sunday, August 2 the Immling Festival welcomes high-ranking guests from Georgia: The Georgian Ambassador Prof. Dr. Alexander Kartozia, Cultural Attaché Dudama Mazmanishvili, and Consul General George Tabatadze have announced their attendance. Their visit underscores the close cultural connection between Georgia and the Immling Festival, which has grown over many years.

For 25 years, Cornelia von Kerssenbrock has shaped the distinctive sound of the festival as Artistic Director and Conductor. Before her move to Immling in 2002, she worked intensively in Georgia – among other things, at the opera in Tbilisi, with the Radio Symphony Orchestra, and at the State Music Academy.

Regularly, Georgian soloists participate in the festival's productions. For 15 years now, the Georgian Sinfonietta has formed the core of the festival orchestra. The artistic partnership has continuously grown and culminated this year in a comprehensive cooperation for the first time.

A special highlight of this collaboration was the trip of the Immling Festival to Tbilisi in March. With Giuseppe Verdi's Messa da Requiem they opened – albeit with a delay - the renowned choral festival. Verdi's Requiem is considered one of the most impressive works of choral literature.

Now the Requiem returns to Bavaria. On August 2 around 130 singers from Germany and Georgia, as well as from Brazil and Namibia and other nations, will share the stage in Immling. The concert is also an expression of a long-standing musical friendship and a striking sign of how music connects people across national borders.

We look forward to your visit!

Best regards
Your Immling Festival Team
